Social Studies

(Left) 8th grader Gilad Ashpis was a Top Ten finalist at the National Geographic Society's state Geography Bee, making him one of the top Ten geography students in Ohio and among the 500 best geography students in the nation!  The Geography Bee is a nation-wide competition that began with a pool of 6 million students vying for the national title from thousands of schools across the country.

   

(above) Dedicating the rock-based plaque, adding flowers, and tying ribbons in our Peace Garden in 2005.  The garden was established in 2002 in honor of everyday heroes and in memory of 9/11 victims.

(above) Schechter and Buckeye Woodland (Cleveland) middle school students enjoy "Movin' to the Groove," the beginning of a cultural exchange built around sharing West African and Israeli folk dance traditions.  The 5-month program is a collaboration of Schechter, Cleveland City Schools, the Jewish Community Federation, an anonymous donor, and Passport Project, a local nonprofit organization that uses the arts to build community and encourage diversity.
